Geography is never simply a matter of borders or physical terrain. It is equally shaped by the movement of people, the persistence of memory, the transmission of cultural knowledge, and the shifting relationships between communities and the environments they inhabit.
Bringing together artists from across Asia and its diasporas, GEEK/ART’s presentation at Art Mumbai 2026 moves across distinct histories, identities and artistic languages, where the works trace the ways in which a place is experienced, remembered and reinterpreted.
Through varied material and conceptual approaches, the artists engage with the cultural, ecological and social conditions that inform their surroundings. References to mythology, indigenous knowledge, traditional craft and vernacular imagery emerge alongside reflections on migration, urban transformation and the instability of contemporary life. These are not isolated expressions of regional identity, but interconnected ways of understanding our world.
Rather than proposing a singular image of Asia, the presentation embraces its plurality: its contradictions, continuities and overlapping narratives. Each practice offers a distinct point of entry into this expansive continent, revealing how artistic expression can remain deeply rooted in particular places while extending beyond them.
At Art Mumbai 2026, GEEK/ART brings together the myths of Asia as a living terrain, continually shaped through encounter, exchange and imagination – where the places we come from remain intertwined with the futures we create.
