Santara Kaur Pawar explores the intersection between internal sensation and the tangible world, approaching landscape as an extension of emotional and psychological experience.
Santara Kaur Pawar explores the intersection between internal sensation and the tangible world, approaching landscape as an extension of emotional and psychological experience.
A British-Indian artist working across painting, ink, and metalwork, she draws on philosophies within Chinese landscape painting, particularly its understanding of landscape as something to be experienced beyond physical observation. In her work, she approaches nature as a shifting sensorial space, where external environments and internal states converge. Her paintings emerge through an intuitive engagement with gesture, colour, and movement, giving physical form to experiences that resist verbal articulation. Rather than reproducing the world around her, she responds to the sensations it evokes, allowing images to take shape through an interplay of observation and instinct.

Her investigations in ink and metalwork further extend her exploration of material and sensory experience, opening up different ways of translating the intangible into physical form. Across her oeuvre, her practice moves beyond the depiction of landscape towards an inquiry into perception itself: how we experience our surroundings, how those experiences are internalised, and how they might find expression through artistic processes.
