Harsha Durugadda sculpts interactive forms where material and movement expand the language of contemporary sculpture.

Born in 1989 and based in Hyderabad, Harsha Durugadda is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice is rooted in sculpture and expanded through performance and installation. Raised in a family of sculptors, he grew up working with stone before developing his own language that fuses craft with conceptual inquiry. His large-scale works layer wood, marble, and steel into strata-like forms that echo geology while drawing from medieval and modern architectural references. By incorporating rhythm, vibration, and sound, Durugadda transforms sculpture into a participatory medium where touch, sound, and movement extend the language of form. This philosophy shapes works such as Column of Sound (2017), a monumental visualization of audio waves that won the prestigious Rio Tinto Sculpture Award and now stands permanently on the Busselton foreshore in Western Australia.

His explorations of sound and form continued in Conversation (2021), presented in Sotheby’s New York’s auction, where a real voice recording was translated into sculptural form. Alongside these landmark works, he has developed wooden pieces like Yellow Cloud and Mirage, where layered contours evoke natural phenomena and the passage of time. Exhibited internationally in Germany, South Korea, Australia, and India, his practice has also been recognized with awards including the Andrea Stretton Memorial Award (2016) and The Arts Family Emerging Artist Award (2023). Across scales and contexts, Durugadda continues to redefine sculpture as a transformative encounter between material, space, and viewer.
