Born in 1973 and based in Tokyo, GOMA is an artist and master of the didgeridoo, renowned for uniting music, visual art, and cultural tradition. In 1998, he became the first non-Indigenous musician to win recognition at Australia’s Arnhem Land Didgeridoo Community Competition, later performing at major international festivals and founding the Jungle Rhythm Section. His career has since expanded across disciplines: concerts and recordings that captivate global audiences, exhibitions at Shinjuku Takashimaya Art Gallery (2019), PARCO Museum (2022), and GYRE Gallery (2024), the award-winning documentary Memories 3D, his composition Trails of Light for the 2021 Tokyo Paralympics, and the monumental 2024 drone performance World of Light commissioned by the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs.

A near-fatal accident in 2009 sparked a profound shift in GOMA’s practice. While recovering from brain trauma and amnesia, he began creating intricate dot works that visualised landscapes seen during unconscious states. Later diagnosed with Savant Syndrome, he embraced these visions as part of a meditative process, turning them into luminous paintings that explore universality, light, and memory. Rooted in a philosophy of renewal, GOMA continues to transform his experiences into creative expression, inspiring audiences worldwide through both music and art.
